Young professional Oleksandra Hnyliak began her career at one of Zaporizhzhia’s industrial enterprises. Her grandmother had worked at the plant for almost her entire life, so after completing her studies, Oleksandra decided to follow in her footsteps.
“I actuallystudied to become a hairdresser and stylist, as well as an administrator, at the Zaporizhzhia Vocational College of Fashion and Style. But even while studying, I realized it wasn’t for me,” Oleksandra recalls. “I took a job at a plant as a chemical water treatment operator. For some time, everything seemed fine, although the work was physically demanding and the schedule rather inconvenient. Later, the plant began to decline, and there were no prospects for either professional or financial growth. After several years, I decided to leave. Looking back now, I understand it was the right decision.”
About six months ago, on a friend’s recommendation, Oleksandra joined the water supply shop at Zaporizhstal. Despite already having experience and practical skills in this field, she completed a month-long training programme alongside a mentor to qualify as a chlorine treatment plant operator.
“The training was very comfortable for me,” Oleksandra says. “I gradually studied the theory, the specifications and functionality of the equipment, and my job responsibilities. Together with my mentor, I practiced on site and then passed the exams. Now I work independently, although from time to time I still turn to experienced colleagues for advice – they are always supportive and happy to share useful tips.”

Oleksandra takes pride in her work, which plays an important role for the entire plant.
“We collect water, treat and clarify it, and then supply it to the plant for operational and household needs. The equipment I work with is modern and automated, so it doesn’t involve heavy physical labour. What really matters is attentiveness, quick reaction, and confidence in your knowledge and actions,” the specialist explains.
She is also satisfied with her working conditions.
“There’s a convenient work schedule, a friendly and supportive team, and interesting, varied tasks. Most importantly, there are clear opportunities for growth - I have professional ambitions and plans for further development. Here, I’ve found exactly what I was looking for,” Oleksandra adds.

During her time at Zaporizhstal, Oleksandra has proven herself not only as a responsible and promising employee, but also as an active participant in the company’s youth and volunteer initiatives.
“For me, it’s important to express myself beyond my day-to-day work, through volunteering, sports and creativity. That’s why I’m actively involved in the plant’s youth community, both as a participant and by supporting the organisers. I already have many plans for the future, and it’s great that here I have the opportunity to bring them to life,” Oleksandra says.
Among other activities, Oleksandra has taken part in a blood donation drive, a youth quiz, the “I Honour the Warriors, I Run for the Heroes of Ukraine” charity run, events for families of war veterans, and various other initiatives organised by the plant’s youth organisation.
According to Oleksandra Hnyliak, an operator at the water supply department, she has now found everything she hoped to gain from her job at Zaporizhstal: a stable income, opportunities for professional growth, and an active social life beyond work through involvement in the youth organisation.
