The speed and quality of medical care can directly impact a person’s health and survival. When it comes to cardiac arrest, the outcome is literally decided in the first few minutes. Medical personnel must act quickly to perform resuscitation and restore the heartbeat. For this reason, every medical station at Zaporizhstal is equipped with modern defibrillators.
Recently, new defibrillators were installed at the medical stations in the blast furnace shop, the slag processing shop, the hot rolling mill, and section No. 3 of the cold rolling mill. These devices replace older models of similar medical equipment.
FACTS AND FIGURES
The plant allocated over UAH 270,000 for the purchase of four defibrillators.
“If needed, this modern medical equipment will enable us to quickly restore an employee's heart rhythm before the ambulance arrives, saving precious minutes and potentially saving lives. While we hope it won't be necessary, we must be ready for any situation and able to respond immediately,” said Denys MAZ, acting head of the H&S Department.
Additionally, every department is equipped with portable defibrillators. Employees trained in first aid can perform chest compressions, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and use defibrillators. They have completed specialised training in emergency medical care in cooperation with the Red Cross in Ukraine and regularly attend refresher courses to maintain these crucial skills. Every unit has medical response teams, and trained employees are easily identifiable by the green cross stickers on their helmets.
