While the admission campaign to Metinvest Polytechnic continues, the university does not stop its active work. This time, the university launched a new training module "Falling objects from a height - safety based on risk assessment," developed for employees of industrial enterprises of Metinvest. Employees of Zaporizhstal Iron and Steel Works were the first to join this important training.
The new training module on the top occupational safety risks is aimed at the development of employees' skills in organizing and performing work safely where there is a risk of objects falling from a height. Special emphasis is placed on practical training in risk assessment, acceptance, and management.
Artem RUDIN, the trainer in charge of this area, said: "This type of training is extremely important for ensuring safety in the workplace, especially in heavy industry, where every little thing can lead to serious consequences. Our task is to teach employees not only to identify potential hazards but also to manage them effectively.
The program is structured on a 50/50 basis: half of the time is devoted to theoretical aspects and the other half to practical exercises. This allows participants not only to gain the necessary knowledge but also to practice their skills directly at production facilities. During the practical part, chief specialists of shops, heads of services and areas, and technical engineers work out scenarios for inspecting buildings and equipment, simulate emergency situations, and develop algorithms for actions in cases where objects may fall from a height.
"This is a training of a new level," adds the trainer, "we focus on a comprehensive approach to safety: from conducting technical inspections of equipment to developing algorithms for dealing with crisis situations. We teach employees not only how to do their jobs but also how to take a responsible approach to all possible risks.
Special attention is paid to protective equipment, both collective and personal. Employees are studying the criteria and methods for monitoring the technical condition of lifting equipment operating at height, as well as the importance of regular monitoring of the safety of equipment and facilities.
Mykola REPIN, Associate Professor of Labor and Environmental Safety, adds that such trainings are extremely important for employees.
They not only improve their competence but also create a culture of safety at work. "Ensuring safety at work is one of the priorities of Metinvest, and such programs are an investment not only in the development of staff, but also in the preservation of their lives and health," said Mykola Repin.
The team of Metinvest Polytechnic has already implemented six training programs on the top occupational safety risks. In particular, several training cycles have already been held at Metinvest enterprises, which teach risk assessment when working at height, with lifting, moving, and rotating machines and mechanisms, etc. The programs are developed in cooperation with businesses and are continuously improved in response to requests from practitioners.
