Metinvest Polytechnic has introduced a new safety training programme called "Risk-oriented approach to work with electrical equipment". University lecturers have already delivered this training to the first groups of employees of Metinvest's enterprises in Kamianske and Zaporizhzhia. The programme has received positive feedback from practitioners, so a series of trainings for the next groups will continue.
The participants included line managers, experienced employees of the electrical functions of structural subdivisions, and qualified electricians. All of them are responsible for organising, controlling and safely performing work related to the operation and maintenance of electrical equipment. The training programme covers several important topics that participants work on over the course of two days. In particular, they study the factors that influence the consequences of electric shock, consider dangerous patterns of use of electrical appliances, and learn how to assess and manage the risks of electric shock. Participants also work out an action plan in case of electrical emergencies and acquire first aid skills.
Mykola REPIN, Associate Professor of Labour and Environmental Safety, said: "Safe performance of production tasks is always a priority, especially when working with power grids and electrical equipment. Our new trainings allow employees to effectively update and improve their electrical safety knowledge and at the same time share their experience with colleagues. We, in turn, take into account all the comments on the feedback forms filled in by the training participants and systematically improve the training programme for the next participants." He also added that this time, based on the preliminary feedback from the trial training, the range of topics on working with hand-held power tools has been expanded.
During the two-day training, participants receive a background of knowledge on how to prevent injuries while working in electrical installations and provide the necessary assistance in the event of an accident.
"It is interesting and useful to be a participant in such a training - professionally organised and full of visualised information. The highlight of the training, in my opinion, is the chain of theory, practice and application that is optimally developed for each topic. Personally, as a manager whose responsibilities are to organise the workflow in the unit in a productive and safe manner, I have adopted a number of techniques that I hope will help make the training process for staff, especially newcomers, as effective as possible," said Viktor BOLOTOV, Head of the Network and Substation Shop.
Thus, the new labour safety training at Metinvest Polytechnic not only improves the skills of employees, but also contributes to the implementation of modern risk management techniques, which is a key factor in ensuring safe working conditions.
