Internships in Europe from Metinvest Polytechnic: the first student is already undergoing on-the-job training at Promet Steel

Metinvest Polytechnic, Ukraine's first private mining and metallurgical university, with the support of Metinvest Group, has launched a pilot project to organize student internships at the company's foreign enterprises.

The first student to participate in this initiative is Yelizaveta ZHELEZNIAK, a second-year student in the Environmental Protection Technologies study program. She successfully underwent a competitive selection process, which included preparing a video business card, an English interview, and an assessment of her academic and social achievements. Yelizaveta is currently gaining practical experience at Promet Steel's production site in Bulgaria, where she is acquiring skills in assessing and managing technological and environmental risks.

The first day of the internship was a special one for Yelizaveta: she received a warm welcome from Dmytro Zakharchenko, Executive Director of Promet Steel, and was accompanied by Olha Bashkirova, the plant's HR and Social Affairs Director, as well as Nataliia Rekova, First Vice-Rector of Metinvest Polytechnic. Yelizaveta was given a comprehensive tour of the enterprise and introduced to the production processes and organizational principles.

Dmytro Zakharchenko emphasized that being part of this project is a crucial step for Promet Steel. According to him, the plant is open to innovations and constantly strives to introduce new technologies that increase the efficiency and environmental safety of production. The Executive Director mentioned that collaborating with Metinvest Polytechnic is a strategic move to attract talented young professionals.

"We see great potential in this project. This is not just an opportunity for students to gain practical experience, but also a great opportunity for us to get to know the new ideas and approaches they bring. "The aim is to establish a long-term partnership with Metinvest Polytechnic for personnel training," stated Dmytro ZAKHARCHENKO.

He also expressed confidence that the internship program will be a strong motivator for students interested in pursuing a career in the mining and metals industry. It will also help strengthen the link between education and industry.

The internship will last until 20 July, during which Yelizaveta will deepen her knowledge of the environmental monitoring system for atmospheric air and wastewater.  She will learn how to control the plant's impact on the air and master preparing and reporting documentation. Each stage of the internship is supported by university teachers and a mentor from Promet Steel. The project will culminate in the preparation of a report on the practical technological and environmental training and its defense.

"This internship is a great opportunity for me to apply my theoretical knowledge. Working at Promet Steel in Burgas allows me to study the European approach to organizing an environmental monitoring system, become familiar with the sources of environmental impact from a metallurgical company and how to control them, understand the details of European laws, and learn about EU environmental reporting standards. "I am confident that this experience will help me become a more competent specialist and prepare for my future career in environmental protection," said student Yelizaveta ZHELEZNIAK.

Nataliia REKOVA, First Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs at Metinvest Polytechnic, commented: 'We are proud of our students and their desire for professional growth. Thanks to the support of Metinvest Group, we can offer our students exceptional chances to acquire hands-on experience in a high-quality business environment, considering the particularities of the legal and technological settings. We are convinced that implementing the pilot project will effectively improve the quality of education at Metinvest Polytechnic. In the future, we will be able to apply the best European practices to restore and develop the Ukrainian industry.
