Ingulets Iron Ore Enrichment Works Installing Modular Water Treatment Plants in Karpivka Community

The implementation of a memorandum of cooperation between Ingulets Iron Ore Enrichment Works, Karpivka Village Council and NGO "Kryvyi Rih Foundation of the Future" is underway. In accordance with the agreement, three exploration wells will be drilled and water treatment plants installed in Shyroka Dacha and Radevycheve. This will partially cover the villagers' need for quality drinking water. Metinvest has allocated UAH 5 million for the projects.

In the midst of the war, Metinvest's Ingulets Iron Ore Enrichment Works and the Karpivka territorial community, where the industrial enterprise is partially located, continued their partnership in 2023. Once again, the parties signed a memorandum outlining the main issues of concern to the community, which the signatories pledged to address through joint efforts. One of the main tasks was to provide the residents of the Karpivka community with drinking water.

To water reserves in the community, it was necessary to drill exploration wells, having previously conducted geophysical surveys. Drilling operations are currently at various stages of completion. The first one - near the sports ground in the village of Shyroka Dacha  will be commissioned soon. Here, at a depth of 156 metres, a layer of granite and artesian water reserves were found. To ensure the compliance with the approved sanitary standards, a modular treatment plant was installed above the well, which will be powered by both the centralised power grid and solar panels.

"I believe that the actual assistance provided to communities by Metinvest Group's companies and Ingulets Iron Ore Enrichment Works is quite important. And we must continue this work even during the war. Because people who live here trust us and count on our support. Among them are many employees of the plant, their families and children. We are making every effort to maintain a sufficient level of production under any circumstances and to be a reliable support for the country and Ukrainians," said Oleksandr HERASYMCHUK, General Director of Metinvest Group's Ingulets Iron Ore Enrichment Works.

Overall, three wells will be drilled in the Karpivka community with Metinvest's support. Two will be in the village of Shyroka Dacha and the third one in the village of Radevycheve. The work on each of them is supervised by NGO "Kryvyi Rih Foundation of the Future".

"This is not the first project we have implemented with Metinvest's support to improve the water supply of the Karpivka community. This is an ongoing collaboration, as two years ago, the four-kilometre-long water supply network in the village of Shyroka Dacha was replaced, connecting 332 private households. Now we are also adding wells that will give people reliable access to free drinking water after the explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station last June brought disruptions in its supply," said Olena LESHCHENKO, director of NGO "Kryvyi Rih Foundation of the Future".

In addition to helping to resolve the water supply issue, Ingulets Iron Ore Enrichment Works will continue to focus its efforts on developing rural infrastructure and improving transport links between the settlements of the Karpivka community in the new year.
