The coke-makers have completed the third stage of re-bricking of coke oven battery № 5. The major overhaul of COB № 5 consisted of three stages spanning three years. At the end of 2023, the company completed the final stage of the project, which included the scheduled re-bricking of five walls of the battery, replacement of almost 1,000 tonnes of refractories, and renewal of anchors, reinforcement elements, gas supply and gas discharge valves.
Metinvest-Promservice's professionals, who performed the main works, also replaced the working service platforms on the pusher side and the coke side.
Completing all the planned stages of the re-bricking will increase the battery's useful volume and reduce the coking period.
"Consistent upgrade of coke-making facilities is one of the most important objectives for Kamet-Steel. We have fully completed the phased upgrade of coke oven battery № 5. The commissioning period has started, with the newly repaired coke oven chambers and walls being gradually warmed up. Having analysed the operation of the equipment, the company's professionals are already gearing up for an upgrade of COB-1 bis to be able to produce high-quality competitive products and further improve the working conditions for production personnel," Roman PURIS, Kamet-Steel's Deputy Production Director for Coke-making, said.
