A flurry of site maintenance activity unfolded at Kamet Steel in the spring of 2024. Specialists of the road repair and maintenance section of the road transport department make a substantial contribution to the team effort.
For the second month in a row, as soon as weather conditions permitted, the steelworks has been carrying out patching repairs of central roads and road improvements – cleaning, removal of vegetation and dirt, levelling, and painting of pavements and fencing.
During April and May, a small team of the road repair and maintenance section of the road transport department patched more than 500 square metres of road. Currently, the focus is on the central road from the central gate, the intersection near the BOF Shop and the road from the BOF Shop to the Oxygen Compressor Shop.
Special machinery and equipment are the first helpers in their work. Every day, a Bobcat – a versatile mini-loader that can be equipped with a bucket or a milling cutter to level and clean local road sections before repairs, as well as a brush for cleaning the roads – works on the plant's roads. A wacker plate is actively used to compact the added slag before grouting in local areas. New concrete mixers and mobile generators to power the machinery were purchased. The cleaning work is performed using a front-end loader in conjunction with multi-ton trucks.
"The quality and condition of roads is an important component of the enterprise's successful and safe operations. Kamet Steel's road transport workers, particularly those from our section, had ambitious plans to overhaul the plant's roads and bridges. However, the economic, technical, and logistical difficulties of operating in wartime have forced us to postpone these plans for the time being. However, we continue our systematic efforts in the routine repair and maintenance of the roads. Last year, we patched 3,000 square metres of roads, and this year we plan to do much more by repairing 15,000 square metres. We are working and believe that we will soon be able to achieve our boldest common goals," Oleksii CHERNYCH, head of the road repair and maintenance section of the Road Transport Department, said.
