In the by-product recovery shop, as part of the reconstruction project, comprehensive restoration work on the benzene section building, which contains vital equipment for the stable production process, has been completed.
The building houses pumping units, various process equipment, and communications to the benzene column in front of the building. Operating for as long as Kamet Steel's coke-chemical subdivisions, the building had significantly deteriorated due to its extensive use. In particular, the walls, windows, roofing, floor slabs, and beams were recently in an unsatisfactory condition. In this regard, a "restoration" of the building was carried out to avoid emergency situations.
Repair specialists of Metinvest-Promservice, in collaboration with experts from the shop's maintenance services, during long and large-scale works managed to upgrade from scratch a monolithic reinforced concrete roof belt, equipped a soft roof, repaired and reinforced the heads of the supporting columns and trusses, replaced the deteriorated brickwork of the building, etc.
New metal window structures, each 10 meters high, were installed. Previously, the windows were made of glass. After the reconstruction, more reliable monolithic polycarbonate was installed into the new metal frames, which were manufactured on-site.
Pavlo HULIUK, head of the by-product recovery shop, said, "For the stable and efficient operation of production units and the enterprise as a whole, periodic restoration is necessary not only for the main equipment but also for the buildings and structures housing this equipment and directly involved in production processes. The benzene section building, after the reconstruction, not only has a decent appearance but, more importantly, meets the enterprise's standards for reliability and safety in its operation. Thanks to high-quality repairs, we've enhanced the working conditions and safety for technical personnel who work in this section every shift. Additionally, we've minimized the risks of damage to critical technological equipment."
