A mixer has been put back into operation in the BOF Shop after a major overhaul. The unit was completely re-lined and its important equipment was repaired.
The objectives of the 45-day overhaul, which started in June, have been achieved: more than 550 cubic metres of refractory brickwork in the mixer body were completely replaced, key equipment, which can only be repaired during a complete long-term shutdown of the unit, was restored, and the dedusting system was comprehensively repaired and maintained.
The 2.5 thousand tonne mixer is designed for the technological preparation of hot metal before it is transferred to the converter department and poured into the BOFs, which involves temperature equalizing and chemical composition averaging.
Upon completion of all repairs, the BOF Shop specialists, together with the repair contractors, checked the operation of all components and mechanisms in the commissioning mode and began technological preparations for filling the unit. On 31 July, the mixer received its first hot metal.
"Thanks to the teamwork of contractors, specialists from Metinvest Promservice's metallurgical equipment repair shop and our shop repair functions, we have successfully completed one of this year's largest overhauls of equipment, the reliability of which is essential for the stable and efficient operation of the BOF Shop and the entire enterprise. Throughout the repair of the mixer, the production of quality steel in the shop was not interrupted – hot metal from the hot-metal ladle cars was poured directly into the BOF hot-metal ladle cars. The repaired unit is now operating at full capacity,’ says Andrii KARZIN, Deputy BOF Shop Head for Engineering.
