From the first days of the war in 2014, the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation deployed the "Here to Help" Humanitarian Centre to prevent a humanitarian disaster in Donbass. As a result of the activities of the Center, 3.5 million people were saved. Many of them shared their stories with the Foundation. Thus, the Foundation became the bearer of thousands of stories of the people of Donbass and collected their testimonies into a unique online museum.
The Museum of Civilian Voices of the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation has taken on the mission of collecting, organizing and sharing the stories of Ukrainian civilians in order to better understand life under war conditions and for a better future.
Today in Ukraine there is no person who has not been touched by the war. It has already claimed the lives of thousands of civilians, and millions of Ukrainians have fled their homes. Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, the Museum has become a chronicle of the tragedies of all the people of the country.
“I want us all to remember this tragedy. And not just statistics. To remember the Ukrainian tragedy in stories, in the faces of people who encountered it. Together we will collect testimonies of civilians affected by the war. They will become part of the largest museum of memory. Every person, every voice is important in the truth about the war that Russia unleashed against Ukraine, its people, their right to identity and, in general, against their right to physical existence. We will document all confessions so that everyone in the world knows and remembers what Ukrainians are going through, without distortion or censorship,” says Oleksii SUKHANOV, Ambassador of the Museum of Civilian Voices, Ukrainian journalist, host of the social talk show "Ukraine Speaks".
The objective of the Museum is to be the world's largest archive of stories of civilians who suffered from hostilities in Ukraine, to create a reliable, first-hand source of information about the lives of civilians in war conditions. The Museum aims to become a unique psychotherapeutic project that promotes the psychological well-being and mental health of Ukrainians who survived the trauma of war.
