Metinvest Ranks Among Ukraine’s Top Three Sustainable Development Leaders According to The Page

Metinvest Group has placed second in a ranking of sustainable development programmes compiled by Ukrainian business publication The Page.

The ranking aims to showcase the best environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices among Ukrainian businesses in 2024-2025. Questionnaires submitted by 15 companies were assessed against the following criteria: developing a strategy and transition plan; setting measurable KPIs and tracking their results; engaging the management team in implementation; disclosing non-financial reporting and audit findings; and demonstrating innovation and transparency in communications.

The winners were determined based on the consolidated assessment of a jury comprising representatives of international organisations and experts from sustainable development platforms.

Alongside Metinvest, the top three also included the audit firm Deloitte Ukraine and the IT company SoftServe.

According to The Page, Metinvest has built a mature sustainable development system featuring integrated annual reporting that is aligned with the recommendations of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) and the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD). The article also stated that despite the challenging conditions of war, the Group conducts regular environmental management and energy efficiency audits, while its corporate policy framework covers almost all aspects of ESG risk.

The publication noted that in 2024, Metinvest introduced innovative solutions, including AI-powered machine vision to improve production safety. It also highlighted that the Group is switching to biofuel (sunflower husks) and reducing the energy intensity of pellet production as part of its energy transition.

Additionally, The Page mentioned that Metinvest is preparing to launch solar power plants with a total capacity of 37 MW. It also explained that the Group’s social initiatives focus on strengthening Ukraine’s defence capability and supporting national recovery, including the “Steel Dream” project and underground NATO Role 2 stabilisation points.
