Metinvest Polytechnic Acquires Licence from Micromine – World Leader in Mining Digitalisation

Metinvest Polytechnic continues to implement innovative solutions into mining engineers' educational programme. The university has concluded an educational license agreement with Micromine, a world-leading supplier of mining software. Thanks to this agreement, students and teachers received 30 workspaces with access to modern digital tools widely used in the mining industry worldwide.

Today, the mining industry requires specialists who not only understand conventional technologies but are also able to work with digital tools for geological exploration, 3D modelling of deposits and production process planning. The implementation of Micromine into the educational process enables students to acquire practical skills that are critical for working at modern enterprises.

In order to familiarise students and teachers with the features of this software, representatives from 'Softmine' – the authorised reseller of Micromine software in Ukraine – conducted a presentation for students of all years and degree programmes, as well as teachers from the mining department. Participants gained a comprehensive picture of Micromine's capabilities, reviewed successful cases studies of its application and discussed prospects for further cooperation.

"The educational programme of the mining department must keep pace with innovations, because the labour market needs not just theoretically well-educated specialists, but engineers who are proficient with state-of-art digital tools," highlighted Ivan SACHNO, head of the Mining Department at Metinvest Polytechnic. He added that acquiring the Micromine license is a strategic step towards training new-generation specialists. The implementation of this software allows students of Ukraine’s first private steel and mining university to work with state-of-art technologies during their studies and gain practical skills that are in high demand.

According to the head of the Mining Department, skills in handling digital tools are no longer an advantage; they are a mandatory requirement for aspiring engineers.

"Metinvest Polytechnic creates an educational environment that is as close as possible to real-world conditions. Our goal is not just to teach, but also to develop competitive specialists who are ready to face the challenges of the modern mining industry," said Ivan Sachno.

The acquisition of the Micromine licence is another step towards digitalising the educational process and implementing innovations in higher mining education. It gives students the opportunity not only to gain knowledge, but also acquire real experience working with technologies that are shaping the future of the mining industry. Metinvest Polytechnic continues to train specialists who will not merely meet current standards, but who will also define the development path of the industry in the future.
