This year, the cooperation memorandum between the Hleiuvata village council and Metinvest’s Iron Ore includes a number of initiatives aimed at repairing educational institutions, installing a sports ground, carrying out road works, and improving water supply. One of the community’s lyceums is currently undergoing active roof reconstruction.
The Chervonozabijnytskyi Lyceum is located in a settlement within the Hleiuvata territorial community. Currently, over 130 students from grades 1 to 11 are enrolled here. The educational process is presently conducted in a hybrid manner due to the safety conditions. Staff members have observed that the roof urgently required renovation.
“Every five or six years, the roof starts leaking, we have to repaint the ceilings, repair everything, and of course, it causes a lot of discomfort. The building dates back to the 1970s. But despite the difficult times and the ongoing war, our partners at Metinvest found a way to provide us with a new roof and the project is now well underway,” says Volodymyr CHUPYLKO, a teacher at the lyceum.

The community modernized the roofs of the kindergarten and a local school last year. Now, a major roof renovation has also begun at this educational institution. Metinvest, a long-standing partner of the Hleiuvata territorial community, is carrying out the project, and the NGO Kryvyi Rih Foundation for the Future coordinates the work's progress.
"During the war, our priority is to support education and ensure that children can learn in a safe environment. That’s why our organization joined the project to modernize the lyceum in the Hleiuvatka community. With UNICEF’s support, a modern shelter was previously built here, and now Metinvest has helped with the roof reconstruction. It is crucial that every child, at all times, has the opportunity to spend their time meaningfully and receive a quality education," said Olena LESHCHENKO, Director of the NGO Kryvyi Rih Foundation for the Future.

The renovation of the roof is progressing in phases. The most urgent tasks involve repairing the parapet's brickwork and manufacturing and installing the roof's rafter framework. Subsequently, the second stage of the project will entail removing the existing covering, renovating and insulating the attic wall masonry, fitting the new roof, setting up drainage, and implementing lightning protection measures.
The primary concern here is the safety and well-being of our students and staff. Additionally, this project, which incorporates insulation, will lead to considerable heating cost savings throughout the colder months. Only the most up-to-date materials, such as thermal insulation and waterproofing, are being utilized. I am confident that once completed, our lyceum will offer a comfortable, contemporary, and user-friendly environment for both pupils and instructors. We are grateful to our partners, whose efforts under the signed cooperation memorandum are making this initiative a reality," stated Dmytro HURIYEV, First Deputy Head of the Hleiuvata Village Council.
There is a strong belief within the Hleiuvata territorial community that by working together, they can build a setting where children feel protected, allowing them to participate in lessons, socialize, and develop free from discomfort or fear for their well-being. Students, teachers, and parents are all looking forward to the project's completion.
