Metinvest’s Humanitarian Mission in Zaporizhia Has Already Processed 1,700 Tonnes of Aid

Metinvest Group's Humanitarian Mission Centre, which has been established on the base of the Zaporizhstal Iron and Steel Works, has received and processed around 1,700 tonnes of humanitarian aid for people affected by the war.

Every day the centre's volunteers collect, sort and distribute humanitarian aid to where it is most needed. The kits consist of food and essential goods. These include flour and cereals, sugar and condensed milk, sunflower oil, canned food and other products. There are also medicines and personal hygiene products, including items for children. Now the hub has received and processed around 1,700 tonnes of cargo.

This includes aid from the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation. Just the other day, using the hands of Zaporizhia’s volunteers, 2,000 food packages for Kharkiv were collected and sent, another 5,500 food packages were collected and sent to Luhansk region. And in Zaporizhia itself, food packages from the Foundation began to be handed out from the office of Metinvest's Green Centre, a public organisation.

About 200 volunteers, employees of Zaporizhstal, work at the Zaporizhia hub. Thanks to their work, up to 10,000 essential food packages can be assembled each day

Large amounts of aid come to Zaporizhia from other countries. During the first days of the war, a hub was created at Metinvest Poland, the other day a second centre was opened in order to deliver aid as soon as possible. The centres aggregate aid from all over the world from those who want to help Ukraine. We have already been supported by Romania, the Baltic countries, the Netherlands, Germany and Poland.

“We have the necessary experience in providing humanitarian assistance and saving people. The Saving Lives humanitarian project is being implemented in coordination with the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation, which, since 2014, has been helping regions impacted by war and assisted more than 5 million people to survive,” said Alexander VISHNYAKOV, head of the Saving Lives project.

Saving Lives is a large-scale humanitarian project created by Metinvest and DTEK, companies that are part of SCM, Ukraine's largest investment group, with the support of the Office of the President of Ukraine, in coordination with the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation and municipal administrations. The Humanitarian Centre is open for partnership. All of the details for those who want to help are on the website.

Metinvest's Humanitarian Mission Coordination Centre in Zaporizhia is taking part in the creation of strategic food reserves in the city. Zaporizhia will create a stock of wheat, and Metinvest has purchased an additional 1,000 tonnes of grain and helped organise its delivery to the city.

In addition, the Centre acts as a platform for humanitarian medical aid. Recently, Metinvest Group, together with the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation, purchased essential medicines to provide emergency medical care to people affected by the hostilities. The first batch of medicines and instruments, with a total value of more than UAH 30 million, has already been delivered to the cities where the Group has operations.
