Boiler Unit Overhauled by Kamet-Steel's Utilities Team to Supply Steam for Coke-making

In these challenging times, special focus is put on upgrading utilities equipment. Kamet-Steel's Power and Utilities Shop has completed a major overhaul of a DE25-14 boiler with a capacity of 25 tons of steam per hour.

The boiler unit produces steam to supply coke-making processes and to maintain the required pressure in the plant's network. Therefore, improving the reliability of this equipment was one of the key objectives of the major overhaul.

The repair specialists replaced the heating surfaces of the unit, metering units, gas supply valves, performed re-lining, and restored the burners. They also repaired the induced-draft machines and performed their dynamic and static balancing.

Special emphasis was placed on the energy efficiency of the overhaul. Frequency converters of the induced-draft machines were replaced with modern ones made by DANFOSS.

"The introduction of state-of-the-art European-made frequency converters allows us to reduce electricity consumption by adjusting the frequency of the power supply to the induced-draft machines according to the steam production needs. Overall, the testing of the boiler during the major overhaul confirmed that we had achieved the main goal: the unit's performance had been restored to its nameplate parameters," Serhii BABIICHUK, chief utility and power engineer of the coke-making operations, said.
