Four Years of Full-Scale Invasion: Rinat Akhmetov Allocates Over UAH 13.5 Billion to Support the Armed Forces of Ukraine and Civilians

SCM businesses, the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation, the “Heart of Azovstal” initiative, and Shakhtar FC have allocated $368 million (more than UAH 13.5 billion) to support Ukraine, its Armed Forces, and civilians over four years of the full-scale russian invasion.

The key areas of support include assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, programs for support of the defenders of Mariupol and their families, veteran support initiatives, education programmes, aid to civilians and local communities, as well as memorial and advocacy projects.

Support for Ukraine’s defenders is delivered systematically under the Rinat Akhmetov's Steel Front military initiative. Through the Steel Front, military units across the country receive free-of-charge equipment and supplies, including ammunition, vehicles, armored personnel carriers, ambulances for military medics, drones, thermal imagers, optical sights, radios, surveillance cameras, clothing and footwear, first-aid kits and tourniquets, fuel, and other essential items. In particular, Metinvest has developed and delivered more than 900 steel bunkers for the frontline units. Based on this technology, two underground hospitals built to NATO standards are already in operation. Matinvest also manufactures anti-drone protective screens from its own steel for Western and Ukrainian military equipment, including Abrams, Leopard, Bradley, M113, Kozak vehicles, and others.

DTEK has provided free electricity to more than 100 critical infrastructure facilities, including hospitals, military sites, bakeries, and water treatment plants in the Kyiv, Donetsk, and Dnipropetrovsk regions. Despite daily attacks by russia, DTEK continues to generate and distribute critically important electricity to millions of citizens, businesses, and public institutions, sustaining life during wartime. Every day, DTEK Grids engineers work under shelling to restore power lines and substations damaged by Russian attacks. To date, they have restored electricity to more than 26 million homes in regions affected by hostilities.

The humanitarian assistance block focuses on supporting civilian Ukrainians, veterans, and the defenders of Mariupol. To enhance efficiency, the resources and expertise of the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation have been integrated with the NGO “Heart of Azovstal,” forming the center of SCM’s charitable efforts and the core platform for programs supporting Ukraine’s defenders.

Since the beginning of the war, the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation has delivered 700,000 units of medicines to Ukrainians and more than 13 million food packages since 2014. It has launched and implemented new rehabilitation projects for children and adults affected by shelling, provided heaters, and supported the arrangement of social housing for displaced families.

Rinat Akhmetov has allocated approximately UAH 2.2 billion to the comprehensive support project for the defenders of Mariupol and their families, “Heart of Azovstal.” Assistance is provided under seven dedicated programs. In particular, the “At Home” program enables defenders of Mariupol with Group I and II disabilities to receive their own housing. Plans for 2026 include providing 100 apartments to Mariupol defenders. Over three years, a total of 400 defenders will receive housing. The project also implements the “Future” program, offering comprehensive support for their adaptation to civilian life and self-realization.

Shakhtar footbal club also provides systematic support for the development of youth football, athletes, internally displaced persons, members of Ukraine’s Defense Forces, and residents of war-affected regions. The Club organized and fully covered medical treatment in the United States for Azovstal defender and marine Mykhailo Dianov. It also arranged treatment and rehabilitation in Barcelona for severely wounded soldier Vitalii Shumei, who was injured near Avdiivka; in Israel - for soldier and Shakhtar fan Yevhen Larchenko; and the club continues to support the rehabilitation of Bohdan Kush, a serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and brother of a Shakhtar player.
