Sounds of Zaporizhstal, Khortitsa and discoveries of the Dnieper rapids

YouTube has released a new episode of the second season of the music travel show How the World Sounds... Ukraine, dedicated to frontline cities.

The authors of the project, Nataliia and Yevhen Synelnykov, together with the entertainer Yevhen Filatov, visited Zaporizhzhia, which is of great importance to Ukraine not only due to its powerful industry but also its cultural component, as they revealed in the new episode.

Zaporizhzhia is a city that still keeps the Cossack spirit, despite modern buildings and industrial enterprises. In order to fully experience the city's atmosphere, the project authors visited the most commonly associated sites in Zaporizhzhia and surprised the public with unpopular places, which are of great importance to Ukrainian culture.

The entertainer, composer and musician Yevhen Filatov, collected the most unexpected sounds for a musical composition and also involved the famous singer Arsen Mirzoyan, who, in addition to his musical career, is actively involved in volunteering and has a strong patriotic opinion during the full-scale invasion. In the episode, Arsen told us how his work at Zaporizhstal influenced his creativity, how he hears the city and recognises its districts by their sound. The story of the singer's life reveals a new, little-known side of him to the audience. Arsen and Yevhen also experimented creatively in the studio and recorded a part of a melody about Zaporizhzhia.

In addition to the touching story of Arsen Mirzoyan, the audience will be able to hear the famous Zaporozhets car from the childhood, visit Khortytsia, see the consequences of the Russians' explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant and findings of scientists under the Dnipro rapids, visit the city's cultural centres and the famous Zaporizhstal Iron and Steel Works.

The sounds of unique musical instruments were also recorded in Zaporizhzhia. Denys Vasyliev, director of the Barabanza Museum of Musical Instruments and leader of the band with the same name, showed a metal cello and handpan.

"In fact, one episode is not enough to cover all the places that may be interesting for visitors. Therefore, we decided to both surprise with the cultural heritage of Zaporizhzhia and emphasise the importance of its industrial activity for the whole country. This is a city that the Russians wanted to take away from us because it is of great importance, and this episode should make audience proud of their country and Zaporizhzhia in particular," commented Yevhen and Nataliia SYNELNYKOV.

All the places visited are combined in the unique melody of Zaporizhzhia, with the sounds of ancient history and modern life of the city intertwined. You can watch the episode and learn a lot of interesting facts on the UkrYutubeProject YouTube channel.
