The Saving Lives initiative has helped more than 282,000 Ukrainians since the outbreak of the war

While Ukraine’s Armed Forces defend Ukrainian cities on the frontline, Metinvest Group continues to be a reliable source of support for civilians in the rear. Thanks to the Saving Lives humanitarian project, more than 282,000 Ukrainians have already received aid.

Currently, the main activities of the Saving Lives humanitarian project that was established at the beginning of the war by Metinvest, in coordination with the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation, are to provide people with food and hygiene products, and hospitals with medicines, consumables and equipment. Aid has been provided to more than 282,000 Ukrainians since the outbreak of the war.

Providing essential goods

In September, food packages started to be provided to certain categories of Metinvest employees and their family members, as well as to the Group’s retirees and pensioners who are on well-earned rest: some 80,000 in total. The process is managed at 20 enterprises in Zaporizhzhia, Kryvyi Rih, Avdiivka, Kamianske, Pokrovsk, Dnipro and Kyiv. The company has prepared more than 102,000 packages for people.

Previously, such food packages were provided to the families of conscripted employees, the Group’s retirees and employees from other vulnerable groups: single mothers, families with multiple children and disabled people.

AID GEOGRAPHY

Overall, the project has delivered 3,882 tonnes of essential goods from Poland to Ukrainian distribution centres, including 1,786 tonnes to Zaporizhzhia, 1,023 tonnes to Kryvyi Rih, 549 tonnes to Kamianske and 524 tonnes to Dnipro.

The Saving Lives initiative also continues to deliver food packages to de-occupied territories and frontline regions. In particular, Metinvest continues to support the residents of the Avdiivka community, who are forced to live under constant shelling, without electricity, water, gas and heating. Avdiivka Coke employees bring non-perishable food packages for them directly to the shelter.

One focus area for Saving Lives is to help the people seeking refuge at Metinvest’s shelters in cities where the Group operates. This includes delivering hygiene kits, food packages and products for hot meals. For example, three shelters in Zaporizhzhia recently received additional supplies consisting of more than 800 kilogrammes of products such as pasta, sweets, grits, baby food, wheat and many others.

Proper care

In addition, the Saving Lives project provides strong support to Ukrainian medical workers. It regularly delivers medicines, consumables and modern equipment to the main hospitals in Kryvyi Rih, Zaporizhzhia and Kamianske.

For example, the initiative has delivered an expert-class anaesthesia breathing system to Kryvyi Rih City Hospital. It has also delivered a universal electrosurgical device and a mobile digital X- ray unit to the emergency hospital in Kamianske to improve the quality of patient care. In total, the Saving Lives humanitarian mission has donated around EUR240,000 in aid to hospitals in Ukraine.
