Quality Confirmed: Metinvest Iron Ore Plants Work in Compliance with International Standards

ISO certificates for an enterprise are like diplomas in an individual's CV. They are a proof of professionalism, reliability, prestige, and a strong reputation. Metinvest Iron Ore Plants excel in this regard, because they have appropriate certificates for four key areas of work: product quality, environment, energy-efficiency, occupational safety.

Even during wartime, Metinvest's companies in Kryvyi Rih follow the key provisions set out in ISO certificates and organise production processes to ensure maximum efficiency.

All ISO standards have their specific marks, indicating the area of its application. The digits before the colon indicate the field of the standard (quality, environment, and so on), while the digits after it indicate the year of approval.

"One of the main standards that Metinvest Iron Ore Plants work with is ISO 9001:2015. It was developed by the International Organisation for Standardisation and was adopted by more than 170 countries. This certificate guarantees that the companies' merchant products are produced at a consistently high level of quality. Annual certification and supervision audits confirm the systematic implementation of cutting-edge technologies, gradual improvement of working processes, and enhanced product quality," explained Evhen YEVTIEKHOV, Head of the Quality Department at Northern Iron Ore.

Central Iron Ore is a unique enterprise that combines both open and underground ore mining with its subsequent beneficiation.  Due to equipment modernisation and improved production efficiency, the plant produces premium concentrate with Fe above 68% and high-quality pellets with the 67.5% Fe content for steelmakers. Metallurgical companies of China, Slovakia, Finland, and Italy are partners of Central Iron Ore.

Northern Iron Ore is one of the biggest mining enterprise in Europe with a complete cycle of iron ore raw material preparation. It also manufactures the main raw materials for the metallurgical industry: A1 grade iron ore concentrate with 67.8+% Fe content, A2 grade concentrate with 65.5+% Fe content, and pellets with 65.0+% Fe content. The key customers of Northern Iron Ore's products are the largest metallurgical companies of Ukraine, Europe, and China.

ISO 50001 is the international standard created for energy system management. It defines requirements for establishing, implementing, monitoring, and improving the energy management system. Its purpose is to allow organisations to follow a systematic approach in achieving ongoing improvements in energy management, including energy efficiency, energy security, and energy consumption.

The energy management system at Metinvest Iron Ore Plants complies with the requirements of ISO 50001:2018 and ensures the implementation of innovative energy efficient technologies in production processes for continuous reduction of energy intensity and product cost. This is evidenced by the compliance certificates of the companies' energy management system with the requirements of ISO 50001:2018.

"During the war and under constant restrictions on energy consumption, the company's management systematically develops and implements projects aimed at energy independence. Our Iron Ore Plants already use gas-based electricity generation. We are also reviewing promising projects for the implementation of solar and wind power generation, which also comply with ISO standards," said Maksym STRILETS, Head of the Energy Management Department at Metinvest Iron Ore.

At mining enterprises, environmental work is carried out in accordance with ISO-14001:2015. The certification conducted has allowed the Iron Ore Plants to create an environmental management structure, develop a strategy for reducing negative environmental impacts, and define priority tasks.
