A Tradition of Doing Good: Employees of Zaporizhstal Took Part in a Blood Donation Campaign

For many years, the plant’s workforce has regularly donated blood to support wounded soldiers and civilians in urgent need of medical treatment.

Recently, another blood donation campaign took place at Zaporizhzhia Regional Blood Transfusion Centre, with the participation of Zaporizhstal employees. Such initiatives for the plant’s activists have become systematic; the tradition of giving a part of oneself for the sake of saving others’ lives emerged long before the onset of the full-scale war.

"This year marks the fourth time we have gathered for a donor campaign. In general, we strive to donate blood every two to three months. Zaporizhstal employees often visit the blood transfusion centre independently as well. But most importantly, we are all contributing to a noble cause," says Serhii PETROV, Deputy Youth Leader of the plant.

Among those who came to donate blood that day was Oleksandra Hnyliak, an operator of the chlorination unit in the water supply department. She says that when she was invited to take part in the campaign, she did not hesitate, as she understands that her blood could save the lives of people affected by the war.

"I consider blood donation to be an especially important cause. Personally, I have been taking part in such campaigns since 2015 –  back then, we also donated blood to help those in need. I know that even a single unit of blood can save a life," says Oleksandra HNYLIAK

The Regional Blood Service Centre emphasises that the need for donor blood is constant. At present, the centre is in urgent need of donors with first and fourth blood groups with a negative Rh factor. That is why medical professionals are appealing to local residents to donate blood.

"The demand for donor blood is extremely high today –  every day, patients with severe illnesses, those wounded in combat, and victims of road accidents require assistance. That is why the support of enterprises such as Zaporizhstal is especially valuable, where teams consistently take part in donation campaigns. We thank every metallurgist for their compassion and commitment!"  noted Yuliia VORONA, Acting Head of the Donor Recruitment and Medical Examination Department at Zaporizhzhia Regional Blood Service Centre.
