Rinat Akhmetov’s Steel Front: SCM and Metinvest Lead Among Corporate Donors to Ukraine’s Armed Forces

SCM Group, which includes Metinvest Group, has been recognised as the leading corporate philanthropist in Ukraine, according to a ranking by Top-100 magazine.

As Delo.ua reports in the article “Good That Wins: Top-100 Highlights Ukraine’s Largest Corporate Philanthropists”, SCM has provided UAH8 billion in charitable support. A large portion of this has been allocated to defence needs under Rinat Akhmetov’s Steel Front initiative, as well as to humanitarian aid.

One of the Group’s most notable innovations is the development of specialised mobile shelters: steel hideouts manufactured at Metinvest’s facilities and installed underground. In addition, Metinvest has been converting these shelters into command centres for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Last autumn, the first underground hospital in Ukraine was constructed, equipped with state-of-the-art medical equipment and capable of treating more than 100 patients per day. The total project cost exceeded UAH20 million.

Aside from SCM, the top five corporate philanthropists in Ukraine include Victor Pinchuk’s group of companies (UAH5.77 billion), Epicentre (UAH5 billion), Kernel (UAH3.1 billion), as well as Nova Group and the Shell petrol station network (each contributing UAH2.9 billion).

The publication noted that major companies are allocating billions of hryvnias for defence needs, humanitarian projects, infrastructure restoration, and more. Meanwhile, millions of citizens are also donating, whether large or small. As Ukrainians often say, there are no small donations.

Overall, estimates suggest that domestic companies have provided nearly UAH59 billion in charitable aid during the first two years of full-scale war.
