Metinvest Group, together with Rinat Akhmetov’s charitable initiative Heart of Azovstal, will continue to support the defenders of Mariupol until the last of them returns home from captivity. Metinvest’s Chief Operating Officer, Oleksandr Myronenko, made this pledge at the Heart of Azovstal: Growing Together conference in Kyiv on 18 February. Zaporizhstal has commenced shipments of rolled products to Metinvest Tubular Iași (Romania), which became part of the Group at the end of 2025. Since the beginning of 2026, the Zaporizhzhia-based steel plant dispatched more than 22,000 tonnes of hot-rolled products in structural steel grades certified in accordance with the European standard EN 10025. For 2026, the plan is to deliver up to 180,000 tonnes of hot-rolled feedstock from Zaporizhstal to Metinvest’s new pipe asset in Romania. Taras SHEVCHENKO, acting chief executive officer of Zaporizhstal and Hero of Ukraine, said: “Zaporizhstal’s rolled products are in strong demand among both European and Ukrainian pipe producers: each year, up to 80% of our steel output is supplied for the manufacture of longitudinally welded pipes and hollow sections. We are pleased to welcome our Romanian pipe producers to Metinvest Group and establish a new format of cooperation aimed at strengthening economic partnership between Ukraine and Europe.”

The plant operates a number of units for processing rolled products – both in the cold-rolling shop and in the hot-rolling shop. They provide cutting, edge processing, and preparation of steel products to meet the needs of both domestic and external consumers. One of these units – Slitting Unit-4 in the hot‑rolling shop – has recently undergone modernisation. Slitting Unit‑4 is designed for cutting hot‑rolled coils into strips. Before the modernisation, the structural limitations of the coiling unit did not allow the processing of coils weighing more than 8 tonnes without their preliminary splitting. At the same time, the plant’s main customers – both export and domestic – order coils weighing more than 10 tonnes, with products of double weight accounting for around 95%. According to the local authorities, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, over 1,300 apartment buildings and more than 2,600 private houses have been damaged or destroyed.
