Rinat Akhmetov Supports Establishment of Coordinating Centre for Treatment of Prisoners of War

With the assistance of Rinat Akhmetov’s Metinvest Group, Ukraine’s Defence Intelligence Corps has set up a centre to search for and obtain the release of Ukrainian prisoners of war. The Group has provided a total of around UAH2 million in assistance.

According to official data, 700,000 soldiers are defending Ukraine in this war. This means that 700,000 families are waiting daily for news from their loved ones serving in the army. What do they do when contact is lost? Where do they look for help? The Coordinating Centre for the Treatment of Prisoners of War has been established to address these issues.

If you have lost contract with a loved one who serves in the army, either in an area of active hostilities or in occupied territory, or you suspect that they were taken prisoner by the enemy, Ukraine’s Defence Intelligence Corps advises not to embark on a search on your own. Of equal importance, you should not publish any detailed information about people you are looking for on social media or online resources. To find your loved ones, contact the specialists at the Centre who take care of POW search and exchange issues. Along with search operations, the Centre helps with numerous related issues: engaging lawyers for prisoners of war, performing DNA analyses to search for missing people and so on.

FACT

In the first month, the Coordinating Centre for the Treatment of Prisoners of War has processed 4,000 requests from all over Ukraine.

Rinat Akhmetov’s Metinvest Group has helped to streamline the Centre’s operations by providing office equipment, furniture, vehicles and other necessities. The Group has provided a total of about UAH2 million in support.

“The Centre helps people to find family and friends, and gives them a chance to bring them back home. The Centre is not just a place to get information about a captive soldier. It is a place where people get hope. Rinat Akhmetov is not standing on the sidelines of such organisations; he is helping to get the Centre up and running. Today, we stand together with the families of prisoners and everyone who helps the Ukrainian army,” said Oleksandr VODOVIZ, the head of the project management office of Metinvest’s CEO

“A lot of work has been done so far to help our young men and women in captivity. We have processed approximately 4,000 requests. Every such request involves a person’s fate. The children and parents of our defenders who have been taken prisoner or are missing come to us. We are here to find them and help in any way we can. Metinvest has provided everything we needed to launch the Centre. We thank the business community for not standing on the sidelines,” said Andriy YUSOV, coordinator of the Centre and spokesman for Ukraine’s Defence Intelligence Corps.

Overall, Metinvest has spent more than UAH1.9 billion to help Ukraine and its people during the past six months of war. The Group has already delivered over 500 drones, 1,600 thermal imaging devices, 27,000 tourniquets and 500 first-aid kits to various units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Metinvest has also provided the defenders with nearly 500,000 litres of fuel, handed over 140 of its vehicles and heavy machinery, bought 100 pick-up trucks, jeeps and minivans for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and purchased 20 ambulances for combat medics.
