Metinvest Integrated GOK has joined an initiative to supply residents of the Hleiuvatka community with drinking water free of charge. This initiative was formalized in the annual Memorandum of Cooperation. It became more urgent after the Russian army destroyed the Kakhovka HPP.
The destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric dam in summer 2023 endangered over 16,000 lives and critically disrupted the water supply system in the Dnipro region. To date, the issue of drinking water supply for the Hleiuvatka community has become vital for nearly 7,000 civilians. As a result of the hostile attack, a water quality has dramatically dropped. Some villages lack access to a centralised water supply. Therefore, this year, a Memorandum of Cooperation was established between Metinvest Integrated GOK, the Hleiuvatka community, and the NGO "Kryvyi Rih Foundation for Future," which includes actions aimed at creating a purified water system to ensure residents have access to drinking water.
Through collaborative efforts with local and international partners – Parish Charitable Foundation “Caritas. Kryvyi Rih,” international organisation Cordaid, Charitable Foundation "Together for Ukraine," and Charitable Foundation "Voices of Children" – six water purification systems have been installed across villages in the Hleiuvatka community. Four of them are already operational, and two systems are undergoing commissioning. In the near future, with the support of the United Nations Development Programme in Ukraine and the Colt CZ Defence Solutions s.r.o company, an additional set of five systems will be installed. While the "Hleiuvatka" utility company maintains the equipment, Metinvest provides funding for water supply, allowing people to access treated high-quality water for free.
"Thanks to the swift action from Metinvest, the NGO "Kryvyi Rih Foundation for Future", and the tremendous support from our partners and donors, we've already seen tangible results. Purification systems are now up and running in Shevchenkivske, Kamianske Pole, Chervone, and Nedayvoda. We are not considering stopping our efforts to provide the equipment; we are going to install systems to ensure the people of the Hleiuvatka community have access to treated water for the long term," says Dmytro HURIEIEV, First Deputy of the Hleiuvatka community head.
