In December 2023, terrible news came about the death of the track foreman of the railway transport department, Dmytro Alimov.
38-year-old Dmitry Alimov had worked in the railway transport department of Zaporizhstal for almost 14 years. He had begun his career as part of the present Zaporizhzhia Casting and Mechanical Plant. Later, he had joined the RTD team as a track fitter. He had worked hard, studied, and in a few years became a track foreman, responsible for timely and high-quality repairs of railway tracks and turnouts. Responsible and proactive, Dmytro had taken an active part in the system of submitting proposals that improved the work.
Dmytro's life had changed radically in April 22, when he joined the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Together with his sworn brothers, Dmytro Alimov had held the defense at the Donetsk front line, went through many heavy battles, was awarded the Order "For Courage" of the III degree. Unfortunately, in December 2023, the man had died defending Ukraine from the enemy.
"All colleagues knew: if Dmytro gets down to business, everything will be done conscientiously. He simply could not do otherwise," says a colleague of his, Head of RTD Track Current Maintenance and Repair Section Oleksandr SHURUEV. "Even now, we often remember Dmytro – as a professional specialist, and above all – a kind, decent and open person. For the entire staff of our unit, this is an irrecoverable loss."
Shortly after Dmytro's death, information appeared on social networks that the man had been one of two fighters who had been surrounded near Stepove. This was written on Facebook by Zaporizhzhia military journalist Oleksandr Veryovkin, who had known Dmytro personally. According to the journalist, Dmytro Alimov and his sworn brother had been killed on the spot by the russians during the surrender. All this had been filmed by a drone, and footage from the scene flew around almost the whole world.
"We knew Dmytro as an ordinary, kind, hardworking guy, a loyal comrade, as a soldier who came to the defense of his people at the first call and was ready to carry out the order till the last breath. He will remain that kind of person for us forever. Glory to the heroes!" wrote Oleksandr VERYOVKIN.
