Towards the people: Metinvest's GOKs continue to support communities

In 2024, Metinvest's GOKs allocated resources to improve infrastructure in the settlements of four communities in Dnipropetrovska oblast and Petrivska community in Kirovohradska oblast.

Assistance efforts were directed towards the restoration of social infrastructure, roof renovations, providing water services to local populations, and the upkeep and repair of roadways.

“Trust in the company and its reputation are born from prudent intentions implemented with positive results. In our ongoing partnership with the local communities where Metinvest operates its mining and processing plants, we have achieved significant improvements, including the renovation of medical centers, schools, and kindergartens. We have also beautified public squares and parks, created new playgrounds, and established covered bus stops, along with enhancing roadways and water supply systems. Furthermore, we have supplied social vehicles and cars for community sheriffs. Even amidst the challenges of wartime, our obligation to these communities has grown stronger, prompting us to adjust our support to address the pressing needs of the people," remarked Ihor TONEV, General Director of Metinvest's GOKs.

Aid in supplying water

In 2024, the GOKs of Metinvest remained committed to assisting local communities with their drinking water supply challenges. At the beginning of last year, the Karpivska community finished a project that involved constructing three wells fitted with purification systems. The facilities were handed over to the residents of the villages of Shyroka Dacha and Radevycheve.

Financial aid was granted last year under an agreement with the Hleiuvatka community to help cover the expenses of providing clean drinking water to its inhabitants. Metinvest has previously provided support for the renovation of a water pumping station and the fixing of part of the water supply system within the Hleiuvatka community.

Re-roofing emergency roofs

With the support of Metinvest's GOKs, the roof of the gymnasium at Shyrokivske Lyceum No. 1 is being reconstructed. The project involved the removal of asbestos concrete tiles and the installation of a gable roof measuring 385.5 square meters, complete with eaves trimming. Installation of fresh fencing, improved drainage systems, and lightning protection measures is currently underway. In the village of Blagodatne, Shyrokivska territorial community, the roof of the gymnasium is currently being repaired. The old asbestos-concrete roofing, measuring 320 m², was dismantled, and a framework of timber beams was constructed and finished with metal tiles.

With the support of Metinvest's Kryvyi Rih enterprises, the Karpivka Family Medicine Outpatient Clinic is also nearing completion of the roof replacement. The work is being carried out without suspending patient care. Currently, about five thousand residents of the community can receive family doctor and dental services at the outpatient clinic.

Children facilities from the Hleiuvatka community will also get new roofs. In particular, the children of the Berizka kindergarten and students of the Zelenopil gymnasium branch. The complete reconstruction of the roofs is already at the completion stage. The renovation will help to keep the premises warm and dry.

Additional functions for infrastructure facilities

In 2024, with the support of Metinvest, the Lozuvata community continued a large-scale reconstruction of the kindergarten in Sofiyivka village. Upon completion, the kindergarten in the center of the village will become a multifunctional facility. It will house an administrative service center, a police office, a starosta office and an educational and cultural space.

As part of the memorandum of cooperation with the Petrivske community, a project to renovate classrooms at the Novostarodubskyi lyceum was completed this year. The company purchased building materials and household appliances for the work. The renovated and equipped classrooms can now serve a variety of functions: they can be either cozy rooms for internally displaced Ukrainians or regular classrooms. To create a simple shelter in the basement of the lyceum in Petrovo, we also purchased construction materials and equipment to carry out work on the site.

Improving communication between villages

As part of the cooperation agreement, Metinvest helped repair the road in the villages of Zelenyi Hai – Vyshneve – Karpivka. The total area of the repaired road is 4,530 m2. This section of the road is the only one that can be used by residents of the Karpivka community, IDPs and guests between the villages. This route is used daily to transport community residents to the Ingulets neighborhood of Kryvyi Rih and to social service centers of the Karpivska community.

Last year, the Hleiuvata community put into operation a 4,000 m² section of the road between the villages of Novoivanivka and Nedaivoda. It is the road that the community residents use to take their children to school and kindergarten and to get to the outpatient clinic. Residents and internally displaced people, almost two thousand people in total, use this way to get to the necessary infrastructure, as well as take the bus # 441 to Kryvyi Rih. In a short period of time, patching and continuous asphalt-concrete mix was installed on the designated section of the road.

Road works on the construction and asphalting of access roads and parking spaces were also carried out near the outpatient clinic of the general family practice of the Hleiuvata community. This medical facility serves three settlements of the starosta, which is almost 1.4 thousand residents.

Currently, most of the projects planned for implementation have been completed and put into operation. Some of them, related to large-scale reconstruction and construction, are in the final stages. The work at all stages is coordinated by the Kryvyi Rih Foundation for the Future, a non-governmental organization.
