A major overhaul of the coke pusher is underway at Kamet Steel

In the coke shop of Kamet Steel, under the 2025 overhaul programme, work is ongoing to upgrade Coke Pusher No. 4.

The coke pusher is one of the key machines in a coke battery, responsible for discharging the finished product from the coking chambers. To ensure the reliability and stability of the technological process at CB-5, an intermediate major overhaul is being carried out, during which the replacement and restoration of key components and mechanisms – long subjected to operation under harsh conditions, including sharp temperature fluctuations – are planned.

The primary task of the overhaul on the “first line” is the complete replacement of the equipment of the press ram, which directly pushes the finished coke “cake” from the chamber into the wagon for subsequent quenching with water, as well as the renewal of the components and mechanisms of the planer ram, which ensure the even distribution of the charge in the chamber for a high-quality coking process.

At present, the efforts of the equipment repair shop specialists are focused on the press ram, as this work requires a complete shutdown of the machine. Once this work is completed, the machine will be held in stand-by, and any further repair interventions will be carried out during scheduled production breaks.

First of all, the drive gear along with its supports has already been replaced, ensuring the stable movement of the press ram. Work is ongoing to replace the ram travel gearbox, the electric motor with its frame and drive intermediate shaft, and the planer ram drive mechanism.

The new equipment has been manufactured by our partners, Zaporizhzhia Casting and Mechanical Works. The company’s specialists carried out the assembly of key components, facilitating the efficient execution of installation work at the overhaul site.

The overhaul plan for the coke pusher also includes the replacement of the travel gearboxes and wheels, mechanisms for removing the coking chamber doors, inspection and repair of electrical equipment, replacement of cable and wiring systems, and other tasks.

Significant attention has been paid to improving working conditions and personnel safety – within the overhaul, the steel structures of service maintenance platforms, stairs, railings, and the like are being progressively upgraded.

Ivan FOMYCHOV, Head of the Coke Shop:

“The major overhaul of Coke Pusher No. 4 is one of the most important projects in the shop at this stage of the year. This extensive set of works, the full completion of which is scheduled for next year, will ensure the reliability of the equipment and help prevent unplanned and emergency downtime. The machine is being brought up to its design specifications, and thanks to the significant upgrade of the electrical equipment, we will be able to eliminate unproductive energy losses, thereby increasing the efficiency of coke production."
