Kamet-Steel begins major overhaul of blast furnace No. 1M

The blast furnace No. 1M (BF-1M) at Kamet-Steel's blast furnace shop has been shut down to carry out a major overhaul of the third category.

The key objective of the major overhaul is to replace the blast furnace's charger, which has reached the end of its service life. New units and components were manufactured by partners from Zaporizhzhia Casting and Mechanical Works. The enlarged assembly and charger installation will be carried out by specialists from the metallurgical equipment repair shop at Kamet-Steel.

Among the most important tasks is the partial renewal of the blast furnace's cooling system; 15 cooling plates of the furnace shaft are scheduled for replacement. The schedule includes repair and replacement of the top and bottom chargers, as well as casthouses, where particular attention will be paid to upgrading the units and components of the iron taphole opening and closing machines.

Also included in the work plan is the repair of the hot blast duct system's refractory lining and air heater equipment.

Yevhen PODHORNYI, Deputy Head of the Blast Furnace Shop for Engineering at Kamet-Steel, said:

"Our team has a clear objective to carry out all planned work strictly adhering to the schedule. The BF-1M major overhaul is a significant part of the 2025 programme, because it is aimed primarily at maintaining and extending the furnace's productive capacity, which plays a vital role in fulfilling production tasks and ensuring the efficiency of the blast furnace shop."
