As part of the Rinat Akhmetov Steel Front initiative, Metinvest Group has established mass production of protective screens for Roshel armored vehicles – Canadian-made equipment that is actively used on the front lines.
The Roshel Senator armored vehicles are Canadian wheeled platforms widely deployed by the Ukrainian Armed Forces for personnel transport, medical evacuation, and patrol missions. While they come equipped with solid base armor, the realities of the Ukrainian frontline require additional protection from FPV drones and shrapnel.
To address this, Metinvest has launched production of external protective screens – special metal structures mounted onto the exterior of the vehicles. These screens act as a barrier, intercepting blast waves and fragments before they can reach the vehicle’s hull. This significantly reduces the risk of equipment damage and crew injuries.

The project is being carried out in close coordination with the military. The screen design was developed by Metinvest engineers in cooperation with vehicle crews currently operating Roshel vehicles in frontline areas.
We don’t just produce steel – we create solutions that save lives. Roshel is solid equipment, but today’s warfare requires new approaches to crew safety. The protective screens from Steel Front are tailored for real threats, especially FPV drones, which have become one of the biggest dangers for armored vehicles.
— Oleksandr MYRONENKO, Chief Operating Officer of Metinvest GroupRoshel armored vehicles are among the most widely used Western platforms provided to Ukraine. As previously reported, the Canadian armored vehicle manufacturer Roshel has delivered 1,700 Senator vehicles to the Ukrainian military. They are actively used by units in the east and south. Thanks to the new screens, these vehicles will now offer even greater protection to Ukrainian defenders – adapted to modern battlefield tactics and threats.

As a reminder, Rinat Akhmetov’s Steel Front is an initiative focused not only on delivering equipment to Ukraine’s Defense Forces but also on developing custom solutions for the frontline. This includes the production of steel shelters, command bunkers, anti-drone systems, and protective gear for armored vehicles.
