Metinvest and International Charity Organisations Focus on Children’s Safety

The NGO "Kryvyi Rih Foundation for the Future," in partnership with Metinvest Iron Ore and the German representative office of Terre des Hommes, has undertaken a significant renovation project to equip shelters at a lyceum and kindergarten in the Ingulets district.

Last year, Metinvest Iron Ore made a significant contribution to the students and teachers of the lyceum in the Ingulets residential area, as well as to the children and staff of the "Chervona Kvitochka" kindergarten. With assistance of the mining enterprise, extensive construction work was carried out in the basements of these facilities: the floor level was lowered, additional exits were created, utilities were relocated and concealed, ventilation and air conditioning systems were installed, modern wall finishes were applied, bathrooms and washbasins were equipped, and energy-efficient lighting was installed. German charity organizations assisted in furnishing the shelters to make them comfortable. All necessary supplies for education and daily needs were provided in coordination with the NGO "Kryvyi Rih Foundation for the Future."

"Thanks to Metinvest and the German office of Terre des Hommes, the lyceum’s shelter is now equipped with desks, chairs, steel benches, mobile whiteboards, flipcharts, Smart TVs, water coolers, and oil heaters. Moreover, to make the kindergarten shelter more comfortable for the children, it has been furnished with tatami mats, a children’s sports corner, and bactericidal air purifiers. These improvements ensure that children can study effectively, stay healthy, interact with one another, and wait for our victory," says Antonina VOROBIOVA, head of the education department of the executive committee of the Ingulets district council.

The support from German charity workers came as part of their project titled "Improving the Protection of Children in Emergency Situations in Ukraine," which focuses on creating safe shelters, providing food and essential items, and offering psychosocial support. With Metinvest's contribution, the project’s impact has grown significantly.

"We provide humanitarian aid such as food and essential supplies. Our work also includes medical support, such as providing medicines and equipment for hospitals We organize camps, psychological support groups, and consultations for children and parents in both group and individual formats, depending on their needs. The project's geographic reach is extensive," says Daria DMYTRENKO, project coordinator of the German office of the international organisation Terre des hommes.

Over the past two years, with the support of the German government, the financial contribution to the charity project has exceeded UAH 3 million. During the war, over 10,000 families with children have received assistance. They are residents of the Petrivska, Karpivska, Shyrokivska, Hleiuvatska and Lozuvatska communities. Also, these are the communities that receive the systematic support for people and infrastructure by Metinvest Iron Ore as part of memorandums on cooperation and humanitarian "Saving Lives" initiative.
