Surveying is in great demand in the field of capital construction. The leading specialists of "Svyato-Pokrovska No. 3 Mine," LLC, Valeriy ZABASHTA and Vadym BLYZNIUK, are well aware of this. They are working together on the construction of block 11 for CG Pokrovs'ke.
Accuracy, responsibility and close attention to details - this is how the surveyors of the Svyato-Pokrovska No. 3 Mine can be characterised. Working together, Valeriy and Vadym are implementing complex technical projects at the new block. Today, hard work continues there, because several important surface facilities are being built at the production site.
“Any construction begins with a surveyor,” says Vadym BLYZNIUK. "We go to an empty field and explore every centimetre of the area. Our work begins by laying out the axes for buildings. The first pegs, which will be followed by bulldozers and excavators, are driven in by surveyors. The next stage is daily control. It is very important that before the facility is put into operation, construction proceeds strictly according to plan. That is why every day we are at the production site, working with design documentation, studying as-built surveys, and, if necessary, going to the installation site and adjusting the construction process.
Vadym devoted more than six years to his chosen business. After graduating from school, he entered Donetsk National Technical University to study geodesy. After the first year, the group broke up, and the students were offered to transfer to Pokrovsk, where the university had moved. Since geodesy is closely related to surveying, he decided to continue his studies in this speciality. In my fifth year, I came for pre-graduation internship at the Svyato-Pokrovska No. 3 Mine, and then I stayed to work here.
He and his colleague Valeriy Zabashta have been working together for more than five years. That is when a young specialist joined the company’s team. He had already had quite serious completed projects under his belt, so he got used to the new place quickly.
"When I was at school, I liked mathematics and geometry. Probably, it was the love for precision and the desire to create something new that brought me into the profession,” recalls Valeriy ZABASHTA. "Mine surveying always presents new challenges that are difficult but interesting to overcome. My professional journey began in Donetsk at the Bureau of Specialised Surveying Works, where I worked for more than three years. Then, I went to Vietnam for two years. As a member of the Corum Group enterprises, I participated in the construction of shafts for a new coal mine with full equipment and reinforcement. I spent about a year in Uzbekistan, where I was also involved in the construction of mines, and from there I came to Pokrovsk and got a job at Svyato-Pokrovska No. 3 Mine."
The past year turned out to be quite busy for all participants in the capital construction process of block 11. And the surveying function is not an exception. There are still very few representatives of this profession, so Valeriy and Vadym are often directly involved in the installation process and spend a lot of time on sites.
"Implementation of each technical project is a responsible mission. There is no room for error here,” notes Vadym Blyzniuk. "Last year, we worked together with the specialists from contractor organisations many times. We jointly installed the emergency lifting machine according to its designed position, adjusted the alignment of the headframe, pulleys and other equipment of the intake shaft No. 3.
It may seem that these processes are similar, but they are not. There are always different conditions that affect the progress of work, and various difficulties arise to which solutions need to be found. For example, a headframe was built from several sections. After installing each one, Valeriy and Vadym got up, carried out control geometric measurements, and only then moved on to the next stage. At the end, final measurements were taken, everything was checked according to the design requirements, and only after that the work can be considered completed.
The guys’ colleagues joke that a surveyor, like a sapper, can make only one mistake. However, the young specialists, fortunately, do not have such experience. Energy, professional talent and perseverance help them to be successful in their chosen business. Valeriy and Vadym have a lot of work and plans for the future, which they hope to successfully implement.
