On the occasion of the 72nd anniversary of Mine Construction Company, Serhii LOZOVSKYI, General Director of the company, talks about the intricacies of work, achievements and plans for the future.
“Serhii Petrovych, Mine Construction Company is probably the only company in Ukraine that, along with underground tunnelling, specialises in the sinking and equipping of vertical mine workings and the construction of surface mine facilities. What tasks is the team working on now?”
“In 2024, we are working in line with our approved business plan, which has been optimised compared to last year. The main facility under construction is Pokrovske Colliery's block 11.
Two sections are engaged in underground work. The teams led by Volodymyr Yeshchenko, Mykola Vasylenko and Vasyl Kyrychenko are performing preparatory work for air gate 1 of the longwall of the southern panel of block 10 and assembly roadway 2 of the northern longwall of the central panel of block 11.
The team of shaft sinking and tunnelling section No 1, led by Viktor Roman, is working at the shaft bottom of intake shaft No 3. The construction of units #5 and #6 for connection of the runaround way No.2 with the air supply crossdrift and the access crosscut was completed. Currently, the team is dismantling the mining and tunnelling equipment, grouting, blasting and laying the rail track. On the surface, the team of underground shaft-sinking and tunnelling section No. 1 dismantled the MPBK-20 sinking hoist.
The team of the prefabrication and assembly section together with the mechanisation and construction equipment section is working on the installation of intra-site networks. They have excavated 4,064 square metres of soil, laid 269 metres of internal water supply pipes and 2,201 metres of cable lines. They completed the construction of protective structures for 110 kV substations at blocks 10 and 11 of Colliery Group "Pokrovske"; 799 MBP concrete blocks were laid. They also performed works on construction of a machine room and a diesel locomotive garage.
In the first quarter of this year, 1,144.4 metres of mine workings were performed. Works on blasting of 1,644.1 square metres of soil and plugging of 329 square metres were also carried out. Today, the flagship of the company is the team headed by Volodymyr Yeschenko. The miners have the highest workload on high-speed sinking, and are the leaders among all the Group's teams and are confidently moving forward.”

“What can you say about the key areas for the rest of the year?”
“By the end of the year, we plan to have 2.2 km of mine workings completed, including the preparation of the ventilation duct of the unloading face No. 1 of the central panel of block 11, the ventilation drift of the face No. 3 of the southern panel of block 10 and the southern air supply drift. The team of the mine sinking section No. 1 will be involved in underground work on plugging mine workings, as well as in concrete work and arrangement of the explosives warehouse. We will continue construction of surface facilities at block 11 and installation of utilities and communications.
We are also planning to improve the working environment. For the miners of the Coillery Group, the team of the prefabrication and assembly site is carrying out preparatory excavation and construction work for the installation of the second stage of the modular amenity building on the territory of the Downcast Ventilation Shaft 3. As part of the investment programme, a phased overhaul of bathrooms at the amenity building of Mine Construction Company is planned.”
