Representatives of the Occupational Health, Industrial Safety and Environmental Protection Directorate of Metinvest’s Consolidated Iron Ore took part in a working meeting chaired by the leadership of the Regional State (Military) Administration on compliance with environmental protection legislation by major industrial enterprises of Dnipropetrovsk region during wartime.
Representatives of major enterprises in the energy, coal, mining and steelmaking sectors located within Dnipropetrovsk region were invited to take part in the working meeting, including Prydniprovska TPP, Pavlogradvuhillia, ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih, Kryvyi Rih Cement, Kamet Steel, DMZ, Southern Iron Ore and Central Iron Ore.
The discussion addressed the status of implementing the measures of Dnipropetrovsk Regional Comprehensive Programme for Environmental Safety and Climate Change Prevention for 2016–2025; citizens’ complaints related to enterprises’ production activities, monitoring compliance with environmental protection legislation, and fulfilment of the conditions stipulated in permit documentation; monitoring systems at enterprises and communication mechanisms for timely operational notification.
Nataliia Bilozyorova, Head of the Environmental Protection Department of Metinvest Group’s Consolidated Iron Ore, delivered a report on the application of eco‑monitoring systems. She noted that since 2017, Central Iron Ore has been implementing a strategic project – "Automated System for Environmental Monitoring of Ambient Air at the Boundary of the Sanitary Protection Zone." The system comprises four modern monitoring stations installed in the key areas of the production activity. They provide continuous, high‑precision monitoring of air quality around the enterprise and enable prompt assessment of the environmental situation within the area of influence.

Nataliia Bilozyorova also informed the participants of the meeting that in 2023 Central Iron Ore carried out a large‑scale modernisation of the monitoring system in order to comply with European environmental standards. The enterprise invested in: state‑of‑the‑art DMS‑2 dust measuring devices; modern Breeze‑small sampling probes; upgraded ASM‑3.D gas analyser sensors. The operation of all four eco‑monitoring stations is supported by specialised organisations, and the equipment undergoes regular maintenance and scheduled calibration.
Regarding the public communication on the state of ambient air within the sanitary protection zones, the head of the enterprise’s environmental function added that Central Iron Ore consistently and transparently fulfils its environmental commitments under the Cooperation Memorandum for the publication of data in the ‘Eco‑Monitoring’ module of Kryvyi Rih Geoportal. The enterprise adheres to the regulations for the online transmission of data to the web portal of the Department of Ecology and Natural Resources of Dnipropetrovsk Region Environmental Monitoring Service.
"Even in the conditions of a protracted war, Metinvest’s enterprises continue to find opportunities to fulfil their environmental commitments. Despite energy disruptions, complicated logistics and economic instability, we are systematically implementing environmental protection measures within our ecological programmes. We are open to cooperation with the authorities, we listen to the public and are always ready to engage with environmental institutions,” assured Nataliia BILOZYOROVA, Head of the Environmental Protection Department of Metinvest Group’s Consolidated iron Ore.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Yevhen Sytnychenko, First Deputy Head of the Regional State Administration and Head of the Regional Military Administration, summarised the outcomes and instructed the enterprises to ensure the mandatory implementation of environmental protection measures aimed at minimising the impact of production on the environment.
