Over 200 buggies made of Metinvest steel for defenders of Ukraine

Ukrainian border guards have received five buggies manufactured by the Operational Command South and the NGO "Buggies for the Armed Forces". The steel products for the vehicles were donated by Metinvest-SMC as part of Rinat Akhmetov's Steel Front defence initiative.

Metinvest-SMC began supplying its products for mobile buggy vehicles in early 2023. To date, more than 200 vehicles have been produced for the Armed Forces of Ukraine using the company’s steel. Recently, another batch was delivered to the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.

Over the two years of the project's existence, Metinvest-SMC has supplied approximately 150 tonnes of steel for the production of 200 buggies.

These vehicles are invaluable in combat situations. Thanks to their manoeuvrability and speed, they are ideally suited for delivering ammunition, evacuating the wounded, operating in difficult frontline terrain, and conducting reconnaissance.

"Metinvest has been supporting the Ukrainian Armed Forces since the first days of the full-scale war. In particular, Metinvest-SMC has been providing steel products free of charge for the manufacture of buggies for two years. The vehicles are sent to various sectors to help defenders carry out combat missions. This is the first time that border guards have received such vehicles. We hope they will serve our defenders well and save many lives," says Oleksandr PALAMARCHUK, Director of Customer Service and Operations at Metinvest-SMC.

Since the onset of the full-scale war, Rinat Akhmetov's Steel Front defence initiative has been producing a range of steel products to meet the needs of the military. In particular, Metinvest steel is used in the production of protective screens designed to counter FPV drones, which are installed on armoured vehicles and help save the lives of Ukrainian defenders. In total, the company has allocated UAH 4.5 billion to support the Armed Forces.
