The Saving Lives humanitarian project, launched by Metinvest Group and DTEK in coordination with the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation, is gaining more support from the international and Ukrainian communities every day. Darijo Srna, director of football at FC Shakhtar, has officially become an ambassador of the initiative.
A memorandum of cooperation between the Do It Together charitable foundation and Darijo Srna has been signed in Amsterdam. The globally renowned footballer will become an ambassador of the project and a member of the foundation’s Programme Board. The aim is to engage the global football community in helping Ukrainian people in the front-line regions of Ukraine.
Commenting on the news, Darijo SRNA, said: “The world is undergoing a major upheaval. No one thought such a brutal war could take place in the 21st century. My life was divided into before and after 2014, when the war in Donbas broke out; and on 24 February 2022, Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Everything that happened in Ukraine then and is happening now hurts me deeply. That is why I have become an ambassador and a member of the Programme Board of the Do It Together foundation. Now, all of us see how fragile this world is. Only through joint efforts can we save children, women and the elderly in Ukraine from starvation.”
Oleksandr VYSHNIAKOV, head of the Saving Lives humanitarian project, said: “Saving Lives is already supported by almost 90 companies from all over the world, including Germany, Italy, Poland, the Netherlands, Spain, the US, the UK, Switzerland, Greece, the UAE and others. Increasing the number of partners helps us to save even more people affected by Russia’s military aggression every day. Thanks to contributions to the Do It Together foundation from major donors and employees of Metinvest, as well as funding from SCM’s major businesses, over 125,000 Ukrainians have already received life kits. I encourage all friends and partners to join in with the foundation’s work and make contributions.
Darijo Srna has been involved in charity work for many years through projects of FC Shakhtar and the Shakhtar Social Foundation
Since the first days of Russia’s full-scale invasion, FC Shakhtar has been providing assistance to Ukraine and the Ukrainian people. In the spring, the club played a series of charity matches as part of its “Shakhtar Global Tour for Peace”. The nine friendly matches of the tour, which the team played in various European countries (Turkey, Croatia, Greece and Poland), brought in UAH13.2 million. Overall, during this time, the charitable projects of FC Shakhtar and the club’s partners raised UAH25.6 million for Ukraine. A game with AFC Ajax in Amsterdam on July 26 will be the start of the second series of friendly matches, hence why the memorandum was signed just before this important date for the club and Darijo Srna.
