Be prepared for different scenarios: Zaporizhstal'on the employees practise emergency response procedures

Ukraine, particularly Zaporizhzhia, is subjected to enemy attacks on energy infrastructure every day. Everyone feels the consequences: hourly schedules and emergency shutdowns, interruptions in water and heat supply. For industry, such shocks have additional risks - sudden blackouts directly affect production processes, equipment reliability and personnel safety.

Zaporizhstal has repeatedly stopped production due to sudden blackouts after attacks on Ukraine's energy system. In January alone, there were three such blackouts.

It is impossible to predict the moment of disconnection, but it is the task of the team to react correctly and promptly take actions appropriate to the situation - coordinated and moderate. The plant has developed regulations for actions in the event of a power outage from the external network.

The documents determine the order of interaction between departments and the sequence of operations depending on the development of events. The algorithms are systematically updated taking into account practical experience and possible scenarios for the development of events.

In addition to the regulatory framework, the company conducts practical training. In February, a cycle of working out the actions of personnel in the event of a complete disconnection of the plant from the external power system was launched. The scenarios cover different scenarios: blackout for up to 4 hours, from 4 to 16 hours or more.

The training involves the chief dispatcher of the plant, the chief power engineer service, the sintering, blast furnace and open-hearth shops, thermal power plants, the workshop of networks and substations, the water supply shop, hot and cold rolling shops, the oxygen-compressor and gas shops, as well as RTD. In total, 16 trainings are planned during February, during which practical training of personnel actions, notification algorithms, response speed and coordination between units are provided.

Eduard KYSLENKO, Head of the Department of Technogenic, Fire Safety and Emergencies:

– During training, we simulate various options for blackouts and check not only the procedure of personnel and the interaction of services, but also technical subtleties. But first of all, it is important that each employee of the unit understands his area of responsibility and acts in a clearly defined sequence - this directly affects the safety of people, the speed and complexity of resumption of work.

The results of the training allow you to assess the readiness of units for various scenarios and, if necessary, timely adjust the actions of personnel. If necessary, the training cycle can be repeated, taking into account the updated conditions and experience of previous exercises.
