Since the first days of the war, Metinvest Pokrovskvuhillia has not only put its production on a war footing but also redirected all its resources to help civilians and bring Ukraine closer to victory. Despite the extremely difficult situation in the region, life goes on, and we must keep working to support the company, and thus the entire country. Andriy Akulych, CEO of Metinvest Pokrovskvuhillia, shared insights about the current situation in an interview.
– Mr. Akulych, everyone’s primary concern right now is whether the company’s operations will continue. After all, the frontline is practically at the doorstep of Myrnohrad and Pokrovsk, isn’t it?
– Our enterprises are strategically important not only for Metinvest Group but also for the entire economy of Ukraine. In these difficult times, we have to adapt daily to new circumstances and new changes brought by the war. We are doing everything we can to remain effective. We support Metinvest, the national economy, our community, our employees and their families. Nearly all of our enterprises are the backbone of their respective towns, and the taxes from our operations help sustain these communities.
In addition to paying taxes, we provide charitable assistance as we're part of the big Metinvest family. We're doing this despite the immense challenges we face, working in a high-risk region. I can assure you that we will continue our operations as long as we can, with the support from our defenders. We will keep producing and processing coal, delivering it to our customers, and maintaining jobs.
– What challenges has the company encountered?
– The biggest challenge we face today is the staff loss, mainly due to changes on the frontline and the proximity of combat zone. Unfortunately, this year has been extremely difficult for us. Due to missile strikes, we’ve lost our most valuable assets - our colleagues and their family members. This is a deep pain for all of us.
– What kind of support does the company offer to its employees?
– We continue to provide support to the families of the fallen soldiers, allocate funds for rebuilding homes damaged by shelling, and organise evacuations for family members. The first group was evacuated on 19 August to Lisova Kazka children’s resort centre based in Kamianske, and the second group followed on 23 August. Also, we're doing everything we can to ensure our employees receive stable wages, including combat bonuses, and we respond to their concerns.
– How actively is the company involved in building fortifications today?
– Fortification work is a priority for us. Thanks to the efforts of our employees, and with support from Metinvest in the form of materials, fuel, and special equipment, we have laid dozens of kilometres of fortifications around Pokrovsk. This significantly helps to hold the enemy back. We keep fighting and contributing to our collective victory, and we place great hope in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, while looking forward to resuming operations in peaceful conditions.
I am grateful to everyone for their input to the development of the company, their dedication and resilience. Together, we will be victorious!
