Saving Lives ambassador Darijo Srna calls on Champions League clubs to help Ukraine

FC Shakhtar Director of Football Darijo Srna has called on all Champions League clubs to support Ukrainians through the platform of the Saving Lives humanitarian project.

Defending against the Russian invasion has united Ukrainians and the entire civilised world. There is a growing chorus of media personalities and celebrities speaking out in support of Ukraine. They are also putting words into deeds: celebrities are organising fundraisers, making private donations and using their visibility to encourage others to contribute to our resilience and victory.

The Saving Lives humanitarian project, created by Metinvest in coordination with the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation, helps to focus the charitable efforts of private donors and companies. It also has many prominent ambassadors, including FC Shakhtar Director of Football Darijo Srna. The football legend signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Do It Together charitable foundation and joined its Programme Board. He plans to enlist the global football community’s support for Ukrainians suffering from the military aggression of the Russian Federation. Recently, Darijo Srna called on each of this year’s 31 Champions League clubs to support Ukraine. In his statement, Darijo Srna invited football clubs to join the Saving Lives platform to help.

“Today, Ukraine needs support more than ever. I have called on the European clubs because I am sure that many teams will do their part to show solidarity with our people and country,” said Darijo Srna, FC Shakhtar Director of Football.

The efforts of the Saving Lives initiative have ensured that the necessary food and hygiene products are provided to vulnerable groups of Ukrainians; medicines, consumables and equipment are supplied to medical institutions; and food is donated to shelters and local communities.

Oleksandr VYSHNYAKOV, head of the Saving Lives humanitarian project:

“Expanding the number of partners helps us to save even more people affected by the military aggression of the Russian Federation every day. Thanks to support for the Do It Together foundation from major donors and Metinvest employees, as well as funding from SCM’s largest businesses, thousands of Ukrainians have already received aid kits. Therefore, I call on all our friends and partners to join the foundation and make a contribution.”

As a reminder, the Saving Lives initiative has brought together about 100 donor companies from around the world, including Germany, Italy, Poland, the Netherlands, Spain, the US, the UK, Switzerland, Greece, the UAE and other countries. Metinvest employees have also joined the humanitarian project through contributions to the Do It Together charitable foundation.
