"Ore beneficiation specialist is not a man's profession, but a universal one," Svitlana Cherviatiuk, Metinvest Polytechnic student from Central GOK

Svitlana Cherviatiuk, a leading quality engineer at Central GOK's beneficiation plant, has been studying for her bachelor's degree at Metinvest's first non-governmental mining and metallurgical university for three years. She consciously decided to add a degree in ore beneficiation to her previous metallurgical speciality. She is a leader in her group and an active ambassador of Metinvest Polytechnic University.

Svitlana Cherviatiuk

Svitlana Cherviatiuk is a bright representative of a classic Kryvyi Rih family of miners and metallurgists. Since childhood, she has been aware of what her hometown does and what kind of specialists can always find a job in it from her parents' conversations. Svitlana's father worked in a mine. From him, the girl learned about the specifics of underground iron ore mining. But when she was choosing her future profession after graduating from school, she chose the fiery one - she went to study to become a metallurgist.

Eventually, the talented specialist was invited to work at a mining company. When she arrived at Central GOK, she was immediately employed at the dewatering department as a filter operator. Her responsibilities at the time included monitoring the moisture content and quality of the plant's commercial product - iron ore concentrate. Svitlana was so fascinated by the manufacturing process of its production that she gave her best at work, willingly took advanced training courses and proved to be a good specialist in her field.

"I believe, the management have noticed my diligence in my work, because they offered me to join the first intake of Metinvest Polytechnic University. I have a great opportunity to get a higher education as a beneficiation engineer and deepen my knowledge of mining. I am currently in my third year of studies and I would like to note that this educational institution is really primarily designed for employees of industry enterprises. It has a special schedule that allows you to conveniently combine work and study. I work at the beneficiation plant from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and in the evening I spend three hours studying online," says the student.

The diligent Svitlana Cherviatiuk tries not to miss classes, but in case of delays at work or other valid reasons, she can always review what she has missed in the recording, which she considers very convenient and useful. She is the only woman in her group, its leader and the only scholarship holder. Work and study take up most of her time, but Svitlana does not complain.

"This is my personal conscious choice. I want to develop in the profession, it is interesting to me and, most importantly, I feel I have a talent. I constantly encourage my colleagues not to stand still and not to be afraid to enter Metinvest Polytechnic. This is a unique opportunity to learn exactly what is needed at work, to do an internship at the company's enterprises, and to have career prospects. Today, I can say with confidence that a ore beneficiation specialist is a universal profession. If you understand it and love it, it will open up to a woman as well as a man - there is no difference. I have never regretted going back to school as an adult."
