Metinvest Group plans to expand its physical and psychological rehabilitation programme for veterans through the Free Waves swimming initiative. Since 2024, current and former service personnel in Zaporizhzhia, Kryvyi Rih and Kamianske have been able to train free of charge at four swimming pools using a methodology developed by Olympic medallist Denys Sylantiev. Over the eighteen months since the project’s launch, around UAH4.4 million has been allocated to support defenders’ recovery and well-being.Overall, the number of swimming pools involved in the programme is expected to increase to six this year. Two additional facilities in Zaporizhzhia will be included in cooperation with the Department of Sport, Family and Youth of the Zaporizhzhia City Council. At that time, everything was fairly simple: a request would come in by phone, and we would try to meet the needs of our troops as quickly as possible as they were deployed to different sectors of the front.Systematic support began with producing steel for body armour and supplying protective gear to the military, because in 2022 there was a shortage of even the most basic personal protective equipment. Today, 3,022 women work in various professions across Integrated Iron Ore. Over the past challenging years for Ukraine, more and more female employees have been moving into roles traditionally held by men. Currently, three female crusher operators are employed at Metinvest Northern Iron Ore's pelletising shop No. 2, working at the production site for pelletising, as well as raw materials and charge crushing. About tough decisions, high responsibility, and dedication to their profession are shared in our conversation with these women.Women are increasingly taking on roles such as crusher operators, electric and gas welders, pelletiser operators, rolling stock repair fitters, and dump truck drivers across the country's mining enterprises. While some men have shifted from mining to military service, female colleagues are stepping into their workplaces.
