Supporting Children and Adults: free psychological assistance in Zaporizhzhia

The UN Global Compact in Ukraine established the "Oplich HUB" community centre in Zaporizhzhia last summer as part of its Mental Health project. The centre operates with the support of Metinvest Group’s Saving Lives humanitarian initiative, Zaporizhstal Iron and Steelworks, and USAID's project "Building a Sustainable Public Health System".

Today, Oplich HUB continues to operate and expand its activities. The centre conducts engaging workshops, art therapy, yoga and fitness classes, as well as individual and group psychological counselling sessions nearly every day.

It is important to note that since September, the "Oplich HUB" community centre has relocated and will remain at its new location at least until the end of the year. Now, classes are held at 9 Viacheslava Zaitseva Street (CCS "Orbita").

"We have relocated, but we continue to operate as before: yoga, fitness, professional counselling, and self-help groups. The trainers are the same as before. The only thing that has changed is the address," says Yehor YAREMCHUK, an administrator at Oplich HUB.

During one of the art therapy sessions, participants were encouraged to reflect on their life stories, envision their dreams, and identify what they needed to achieve mental balance.

Nataliia, an art therapist, says that every detail matters when drawing, as people always have a reason for what they choose to draw. Everything has a reason behind it.

"Such drawing always uncovers new insights about ourselves. Through painting, we can gain insight into whether we have enough of what we need and, if not, what exactly is absent. For some it is love, for others it is relaxation and ease.

I advise everyone to explore art therapy at least once, preferably with the support of a qualified expert. Even those who can't draw at all. Ultimately, this will lift your spirits, and you will learn more about your inner self and mental health," said Nataliia POPOVA, a psychologist at Oplich HUB.

Everyone is welcome to attend the classes. All activities are free of charge and conducted with strict confidentiality.
