Germany expands humanitarian assistance for Ukraine as a part of the Saving Lives project

The Do It Together Foundation of the Saving Lives humanitarian project signed a memorandum of cooperation with Agritrade Ukraine, which is acting as the Coordination Centre for the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture. This is the first strategic partnership between Germany and Ukraine as part of the Saving Livings project.

The memorandum was signed in order to prevent a humanitarian disaster in Ukraine and help Ukrainians who have suffered as a result of Russia’s hostile actions.

Humanitarian assistance had already been received from Germany, but it had been of an ad hoc nature. The signing of the memorandum will intensify this assistance and make it more consistent. Under the agreement, it has been arranged to send 200 tonnes of assistance monthly. That will make it possible to expand both the geography and the number of recipients. Approximately 30,000 children, women and elderly people will have the opportunity to live better and obtain the most essential things.

“We have supported Ukraine with food for almost three months. It is important for us that people in need can get food and water in time. This is why we signed this memorandum with the Saving Lives project since it has shown its professionalism and established logistics from the donor to the recipient of aid. We have more than 50 companies in Germany that provide foodstuffs for Ukraine. We are looking forward to the end of the war, but we will do everything possible in the meantime in order to help people”, said Andre PILLING, Chairman of the Coordination Centre Board at BMEL.

The shipment will be packed in Poland at Agritrade Ukraine hubs and it will be delivered to Ukraine by the Saving Lives project . The assistance will be sent to the regions that have suffered from the aggression of the invading forces. In particular, it will go to Donetsk Region. City residents and people forced from their homes will obtain food and other essential items. It is symbolic that the memorandum was signed at a Polish hub.

“Since the war broke out, approximately 55,000 Ukrainians have obtained aid from the Saving Lives project. Unfortunately, Russian hostility is not decreasing. Therefore, even more people need help than three months ago. As a result of joint efforts with such partners as Agritrade Ukraine, we will be able to support the most vulnerable segments of population. We are grateful to Agritrade Ukraine and the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture for such timely and important assistance,” said Oleksandr VISHNIAKOV, Head of the Saving Lives project.

The assistance from Germany will be sent to Ukraine on a regular basis and strengthen the Saving Lives project. As of now, the aggregate coverage of the project has reached 100,000 people.

The Saving Lives humanitarian project was created by Metinvest Group and DTEK, in coordination with the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation, following the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The project provides for widescale and continuous assistance for Ukraine with foods and other essential items. As a consequence, two hubs have been established in Poland, where wholesale cargoes are collected, sorted and prepared for shipment. In coordination with the government of our country, they are delivered to the cities and regions that most need this assistance. Financial assistance is also sent to the Do It Together charitable foundation: https://bit.ly/DoItTogetherFund. Recently, assistance in addition to food has begun going to medical institutions as a part of the project. Hospitals in Zaporizhzhia and Kamianske have received medical supplies and expendables.
