The event was organised by Zaporizhstal to mark Children's Day.
Last weekend, Zaporizhstal employees and their children attended a family sports event. It was dedicated to Children's Day. The steelworks prepared an interesting programme for children with animators, sports relays, competitions and master classes.
60 families of Zaporizhstal employees took part in the event. There were children of all ages, including those whose parents are currently serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Dmytro Severiuk, an employee of the steelworks, is defending Ukraine now. The defender's short leave fell on these days, so he came to the event with his daughter. The defender is convinced: such festive events are a necessity for kids, which our children lack because of the war.
"Before the war, Zaporizhstal organised such sporting events for children on many occasions. Not only for them, though – we would always celebrate all important dates with our large family of steel workers, and we celebrated Metallurgist and Miner's Day, Independence Day, and City Day on a grand scale. Of course, I could not miss this sporting event – I asked the commander for time off and came here to spend some time with my daughter, who needs my attention and communication with other children," said Dmytro from Zaporizhstal.
Yaroslava, the daughter of Oleksii Mashchenko, a volunteer from Zaporizhstal, also came to the event to spend the day productively. By the way, the documentary "Hymn of Life", premiered in Kyiv and featuring Oleksii as one of the main characters, tells his story. In her free time, the girl helps her father, works as a volunteer, and supports our military.
"Yaroslava helps us all the time. Together with her mother, she sews clothes for IDPs and collects humanitarian aid for soldiers. Our family has no time to be sad, because there is still much to be done for the Victory. And at this event, we were able to forget about the war for a short time, it is an brilliant event," says Oleksii Mashchenko.
7-year-old Sofiia was also delighted with the event.
"We played a lot of games, danced, caught bubbles! We even played a big game of jenga. It was a lot of fun, and I made new friends," said Sofiia.
At the end of the entertainment programme, the kids received gifts and sweets. Parents are convinced that such festive events give children a sense of real wonder and shared happy childhood moments spent with family and new friends.
