Arithmetic of kindness: almost 57,000 people have received assistance from the Saving Lives humanitarian project

The Saving Lives humanitarian project, created by Metinvest Group and DTEK, the largest SCM businesses, in coordination with the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation, has been working non-stop from the moment it was set up. Now the number of donor companies involved is growing, and the scope of humanitarian support provided to Ukrainians is increasing steadily.

The war doesn’t just kill with bullets and shells. The humanitarian crisis is just as harmful as any weapon when civilians suffer from a lack of food and medicines. To protect Ukrainians from a possible food catastrophe, Metinvest Group and DTEK, in coordination with the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation, created the Saving Lives humanitarian project during the very first days of Russia’s full-scale invasion. Its primary goal is to ensure regular supplies of foodstuffs, essential goods and medicines to Ukraine and their subsequent distribution to the regions most in need of urgent support.

Since the launch of the project, 3,091 tonnes of kits of essential items have already been delivered. They have been given to 56,903 people, including women, children and the elderly. All aid is provided free of charge according to a simplified procedure: you come, present your identification card and receive a package.

THE GEOGRAPHY OF ASSISTANCE

3,091 tonnes of essential kits have been delivered to Ukraine’s regions:   1,133 tonnes – to Zaporizhzhia, 962 – to Kryvyi Rih, 549 – to Kamianske, 447 – to Dnipro.

The Saving Lives project began as an internal humanitarian initiative of Metinvest Group and DTEK, the largest SCM businesses, in coordination with the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation, but it quickly gained the trust of the international community. Even more reliable partners have recently joined.  The Do It Together Foundation has signed a memorandum of cooperation with Agritrade Ukraine, acting as a Coordination Centre for the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture. Under the agreement, 200 tonnes of food and basic essentials are expected to be delivered every month. As a result of this partnership, around 30,000 residents in the affected regions will have a better quality of life and not worry about hunger.

Aid from Germany will arrive in Ukraine regularly and strengthen the Saving Lives project. Today it is supported by around 90 donors and partners from Germany, Italy, Poland, the Netherlands, Spain, the United States, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Greece, the UAE and other countries. The project will soon reach around 100,000 people in total.

AID IN FIGURES

The total coverage of the Saving Lives humanitarian project assistance will reach up to 100,000 people.

Also in May, the scope of humanitarian support provided was expanded. In addition to food and basic essentials, medical supplies are also arriving in Ukraine. Medical institutions in Zaporizhzhia and Kamianske have received medications and consumables worth €238,000 from the Saving Lives project. Vitamins for adults and children are next in line.

Notably, it is not only large companies but also ordinary people, Metinvest employees, who have united around the important goals of the Saving Lives project.  They donate to the Do It Together charitable foundation: https://bit.ly/DoItTogetherFund. At present, donations from the Group’s employees exceed €100,000, and the total amount of money and humanitarian goods provided by donors has reached €1,321,000. The Foundation operates according to the principles of transparency and provides regular reporting about its activities.

I would like to thank every employee and partner who has joined in the humanitarian mission for your incredible support for the Saving Lives project. As a result of your commitment, we have proven once again that there are no difficult tasks for people with open hearts. We appreciate everyone who is supporting Ukrainians in this difficult time, and we call on as many people, companies and countries as possible to join the ranks of philanthropists. With faith in the victory of light and good.

— Yuriy RYZHENKOV,  CEO, Metinvest Group.
